Finding Agnes ตามรอยรักของแม่ (2020) [บรรยายไทย]

Agnes (Sandy Andolong) sits in front of a mirror, covering facial bruises with makeup. The car is ready, the maid says. She walks downstairs, embraces her young son Brix (Yuan Francisco), mixes up his Rubik’s Cube and tells him she’ll be back when he solves it. He cries as she drives off. Twenty-five years later, Brix (Bay) is now maybe 35 or so. He sits in a private plane, staring at the Cube. It’s complete. It’s worn on the edges. He’s leading a Very Important Business Meeting in an impressive skyscraper when his assistant interrupts: His mother (Sandy Andolong) is in the office and she wants to see him. He boots everyone from the conference room and invites Agnes in. The meeting is awkward. She’s warm. He’s chilly. Look, he completed the Rubik’s Cube, and she didn’t come back. Did he get any of her letters from Morocco? No. Well, she owns a bed and breakfast there now. Welp, Brix has work to do. They agree to meet again later.

Then the movie kills her right the hell off. It was a stroke. She left Brix the B&B and requested that he return her ashes to Morocco. Before he leaves, he visits his stepmother; his father is also dead. She gives him a box full of his mother’s letters, lets him look at his old room decorated with a tree that Agnes painted on the wall. “She LOVED trees,” he says. He goes home to his ultramodern house, where he lives alone, and paws through the letters. He flies to Morocco to fulfill Agnes’ wishes and stay at the B&B, which is also decorated with painted trees. She really did love trees, possibly like few have loved trees before. The business is run by Cathy (Ramirez), who’s distraught over Agnes’ passing. Cathy’s late mother and Agnes were great friends; they opened the B&B together. Agnes was like a second mom to her.

Brix seems unmoved by all this. Maybe he’s bitter about his mother abandoning him with his jerkass dad. Maybe he’s too much of a big-city big shot to care about some gorgeously quaint inn in some Moroccan jerkwater. He’s constantly on the phone with His People, who get to work putting the property up for sale. Meanwhile, he and Cathy hang out. She shows him a small statue that’s a clue to Agnes’s story — the story Brix never got a chance to hear. They deliver the statue to an old friend of Agnes, which leads them to an art gallery, which leads them to a women’s shelter. His visit is now a series of day trips with his pseudo-stepsister. Will learning about his mother’s life’s journey warm him up? Or will he just offload the B&B and nice-lady Cathy like a bad investment?
