Amberley is determined. Amberley is competitive. Amberley is focused. She’s a rodeo star in the making, a barrel racer to be reckoned with. When she comes in second place, she refers to it as being “first loser.” If a day goes by when she’s not on a horse, it’s a bad day. But she’s ultimately an optimist. Played by Spencer Locke, Amberley is at a turning point in her life — nationally ranked in her sport, soon to graduate from high school and go to college, gearing up to speak at a Future Farmers of America conference.

But all that promise comes crashing down quickly. Reaching for a map on the passenger seat, she unbuckles her safety belt, swerves, overcorrects, then flips her F-150. She’s thrown out of the vehicle, and slams into a barbed-wire fence, smashing a vertebra and partially severing her spine. The emergency room doctor says she’ll never walk again.

Although Amberley loses some of her fighting spirit, it’s only temporary. Her mom (Missi Pyle) is her rock. Her dad (Bailey Chase), a baseball coach in Hawaii, flies back to Utah and installs an elevator in the house. Amberley fights through grueling rehab sessions to strengthen her upper body and learn to navigate a wheelchair. She sneaks out in the middle of the night to work out by herself. Eventually, she finds the courage to visit her beloved horse, named Power. She watches him. She pets him. She soon climbs on his back, sitting in a custom saddle fitted with, ironically, a seatbelt. Amberley rides again!
